Verizon’s Alltel Buy: DoJ Decrees Divestiture

One down, one to go.

The Justice Department on Thursday gave Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) the thumbs-up in its quest to buy Alltel Corp.

However, it must say goodbye to assets in 22 states. That includes service in all of North Dakota and South Dakota, not to mention big portions of other states.

Supposedly the FCC will vote on the Verizon-Alltel acquisition Nov. 4, the same day it’s expected to weigh in on white spaces and intercarrier compensation/Universal Service Fund reform.
