GENBAND CEO Charlie Vogt has been named Ernst & Young Southwest Area North (North Texas/Arkansas/Oklahoma) Entrepreneur Of The Year. The award recognizes people who excel at growing and sustaining market-leading businesses.
“I am honored to be among the finalists of this prestigious award and humbled to be recognized as this year’s winner,” said Vogt, a telecom veteran who was instrumental in the operational and financial growth of five start-ups that either became public companies or were acquired. “Successful entrepreneurship is about making good things happen. I believe in building things, always have. I have spent a career building businesses. I have always gravitated towards the most challenging project or the job no one wanted. Entrepreneurs require what I call ‘VRL’ – Vision, Risk and Leadership. When you get all three ingredients working together, the output is rewarding.”
GENBAND is a leading supplier of next-generation IP gateway and application solutions that enable fixed wireline, mobile, and cable network service providers to rapidly deploy new multimedia services. Vogt became president and CEO of GENBAND in September 2004.
"Charlie is one of my best hires -- to any of my investment companies,” said Dr. Jon Bayless, GENBAND’s chairman, general partner of Seven Rosen Funds and 1992 recipient of the Entrepreneur Of The Year award. “He took a frail company with couple of million dollar in revenue, made it the No. 1 media gateway company globally, spanning 60 plus countries worldwide, and grew the company more than twenty five times its size in four years."
GENBAND has successfully secured business with more than half of the world’s top 100 network service providers, partnered with six of the world’s largest telecom equipment manufacturers, extended its global reach to more than 60 countries, executed four acquisitions, reversed a negative trending operational plan and grown revenues from 5 to 94 million. The company’s employee population has grown from 90 to 550 and has Centers of Excellence in Texas, China, India and Brazil. Today GENBAND is recognized as the world-wide market-share leader in media gateway shipments and labeled as one of the nation’s fastest growing private companies.
