Verizon Secures More Franchises in Pennsylvania

Verizon Communications Inc. has been making inroads in Pennsylvania, obtaining franchise agreements from different communities as it rolls out its FiOS TV service throughout the country.

Verizon’s latest coup took place this week in the Montgomery County borough of Collegeville and the townships of Skippack and Lower Gwynedd.

The Bell company in late June also secured a cable franchise deal from the Montgomery County borough of Hatfield.

The communities are part of a consortium of 30 Montgomery County municipalities Verizon is working with to get a series of franchises. There are nearly 225,000 households in the towns represented by the consortium. Fifteen other Pennsylvania communities have awarded cable franchises to Verizon.

Verizon said it will announce later this year when FiOS TV will be available.
